Things To Do
A notable and recognized landmark and one of the top Cancun attractions, Chichén Itzá is the most spectacular Mayan archaeological site in the Yucatán area. Discover strong cultural roots that hold both mystery and magic, and a place that's an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main hub of Mayan civilization, Chichén Itzá's focal point is the pyramid-like El Castillo, once used as a temple for worship. It's about a two-and-a-half-hour car or bus ride. Open year-round from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is 64 Mexican pesos ($3.30 USD).
Want laid-back seclusion away from the hustle and bustle of your Cancun vacation? A popular day trip is Isla Mujeres (The Island of Women), a beautiful sleepy island, just eight miles (a short boat ride) off the Yucatán. On the island, you'll also find Hacienda Mundaca, the ruined mansion of a 19th century slave trader named Mundaca. Plus, sea turtles are popular on the island, viewable at tortugranja (turtle farm).
Considered a locals- beach, Playa Tortugas earns praise for its relaxed atmosphere and clean sands. Several open-air restaurants make for great evening dining.
El Rey Ruins
Perhaps not as impressive as Chichén Itzá, El Rey Ruins makes up for it with convenience. In the heart of the Hotel Zone, the ruins are small and easily navigated in a short amount of time. The other popular attraction is the opportunity to mingle with hundreds of iguanas. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is 47 pesos ($3 USD).
Delphinius Dreams Cancun
In the Dreams Cancun Hotel in the Hotel Zone, Delphinus Dreams Cancun is your chance to swim with dolphins. Choose from a variety of programs to interact with the dolphins.
