The Yucatan Cathedral

The Yucatan Cathedral, in the city of Mérida, capital of the state, is dedicated to San Ildefonso, it is the seat of the archdiocese of Yucatan. It is the first cathedral built in continental America (mainland), and it is also the oldest in Mexico, Once the Spanish city was built on the old T'Hó, the conquistadors took on the task of building the local church, which was carried out between 1562 and 1598. After the authorization of Pope Pius IV and the request of King Felipe II, it was erected in the cathedral of the capital of the Yucatan.
