This is the state's iconic archeological site and is a UNESCO world Heritage Site. At its peak, it was one of the most important cities in Meosamerica. Built on a mountain summit in Oaxaca's central valleys, it was the Zapotec capital city. Visitors to the site can see a large rectangular esplanade flanked by temples, places of worship, areas set aside for ballgames and tombs.
